Turtle candy is the generic name for TURTLES®, a chocolate confection made by DeMet's Candy Company. In essence, the idea is to make chocolate filled with nuts and have it look like a turtle (however vaguely). The recipe outlined here is a simply way to put together gooey, nutty candies that somewhat resemble the turtle candy you can buy. It's inexpensive and only requires three ingredients to complete.
Edit Ingredients
- Regular mini pretzels
- Rolo chocolate candies (round chocolate candy filled with caramel)
- Toasted pecans (you can use just about any nut, but pecans were the original choice of nut)
- Preheat the oven to 350ºF/180ºC.
- Unwrap the Rolos and place them in the bowl.
- Spread the mini pretzels out evenly on a baking sheet.
- Place a Rolo on top of the pretzel.
- Bake in oven for 2-4 minutes. The rolos should be soft but not completely melted, so keep an eye on their progress in the oven.
- Remove the baking sheet from the oven. Set the sheet on a cooling rack and immediately push a pecan into the softened Rolo.
- Enjoy the candy hack for what it is––deliciously gooey homemade sweetness.
- Let the candy cool for a few minutes before eating as the chocolate and caramel could be very hot!
- This is a great candy for holiday treats.
- This candy is very "freeze" friendly if you need to make it ahead.
- Store uneaten candies in an airtight container for up to a week.
