Halloween is coming! How to Make Blood Capsules
Oct 21st 2012, 12:00

Fall is in the air and you know what that means: Halloween. The most mysterious time of the year, the time when you can dress up and not look foolish, watch scary movies and, of course, blood. Blood for gore and spine tingling queasiness with your Halloween costumes––the blood capsule is the essential in props.

Edit Steps

  1. Mix together the following ingredients: 1 cup of corn syrup (any kind that is not dark syrup), 1 tablespoon of water, 2 tablespoons of red food coloring, and 1 tablespoon of yellow food coloring. Mix everything together in a bowl.
    • If you wish, you may add a tablespoon of cocoa powder for a deeper red color.
  2. Pour the fake blood into the capsules. The kind of capsule you're looking for is an empty gel capsule, which can be found at most vitamin stores.
  3. Remove the top from the capsule and carefully pour the fake blood mixture into it until it is full or half full. When you have filled each capsule sufficiently, place the top back on and close it tightly.
  4. Repeat this until you have made enough fake blood caps.
  5. When finished, place one in your mouth as needed. Let it warm up before breaking it in your mouth.

Edit Tips

  • Fake blood can last for a long time. Be sure to store it in a closed bottle.
  • Gel capsules are safe and can be eaten and swallowed.

Edit Warnings

  • Though the blood capsules are safe, don't over ingest the capsules. Corn syrup doesn't taste good and makes you feel sick, so spit it all out and wash it out when you're done.

Edit Things You'll Need

  • 1 cup of corn syrup
  • 1 tablespoon of water
  • 2 tablespoon of red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon of yellow food coloring
  • 1 package of empty gel capsules (Solaray® capsules work well but any brand can be used.)
