Removing coffee stains from wool is not difficult. Just be cautious when deciding on what stain removal agent to use because bleaches and strong alkalies can cause the wool fibers to shrink. The suggestions in this article will work for black coffee, coffee with sugar and coffee with cream stains.
- Blot the excess coffee spill with a cloth or paper towel. Try to blot up as much of the spill as you can, changing the cloth or paper towel when needed.
- Dampen the affected area with cold water using a spray bottle.
- Mix 1 part glycerine, 1 part white dish-washing detergent and 8 parts water to make a wet spotter and put the solution in a plastic squeeze bottle.
- Apply a small amount of distilled white vinegar and wet spotter directly on the coffee stain.
- Dab the affected area with an absorbent pad moistened with the wet spotter. Leave it there for about 10 minutes or until the pad is not absorbing any more of the coffee stain. Repeat the applying and dabbing process until the stain is gone. Use a new absorbent pad every time.
- Flush the affected area with water to rinse off all the residues from the solution. For coffee with cream or milk stain, a greasy spot might remain. If this is the case, continue with the steps below.
- Dampen a cloth with dry-cleaning solvent. Gently wipe the greasy spot with it, working outward from the center of the stain.
- Mix 1 part coconut oil to 8 parts liquid dry-cleaning solvent to make a dry spotter. Put it in a container with a tight cap.
- Dab the affected area with an absorbent pad moistened with the dry spotter. Leave it there for about 10 minutes.
- Flush the area with a dry-cleaning solvent.
- Wash the wool item as you normally would.
- Lay the wool garment on a flat surface to dry under the sun. Do not put the wool item in the dryer as this will cause the wool fabric to shrink.
- You can use mineral oil instead of coconut oil to make the dry spotter. Just note that mineral oil is not as effective as coconut oil.
- Always pretest the solution or chemical you are going to use on a hidden area of the wool item.

- Use dry-cleaning solvents cautiously. They are poisonous and may be flammable.
- Do not use soap. Rubbing soap in could make the stain permanent.
- Do not hang to dry the wool item as this will cause the wool fabric to stretch. A sweater rack is a good option for drying.
