| How to Remove a Location from Your Map on Facebook Timeline Oct 13th 2012, 00:00 Can't for the life of you figure out how to remove a location from your Facebook Timeline Map? With all the new features bustling around on your homepage, the solution could seem impossible to find. However, as you'll find in this article, it's actually quite simple. Note: The Map is a feature on the social media website Facebook. Found on your Timeline, it is an area which visually represents the locations of your life events, photographs and where you have travelled on a Bing world map. - Go to the Map application on your Facebook Timeline. It can be found to the right of your screen, below your cover photo, alongside other applications such as your friends, photo albums and possibly notes or likes, and is easily recognizable by its map graphic. Occasionally the Maps application can be hidden from view; to reveal it, simply press the arrow to the right of the applications.
- Locate the offending location on your Map. Perhaps you selected the wrong option when locating where you travelled? Or maybe you simply don't want the marker to appear on your Map? After entering the Map, use the hand tool to move above your Map until you have found the location (represented by dark, upside-down tear marker). If it is in an area you frequent often, you may have to click onto that area or zoom in using the map controls.
- Click on the offending location's marker. A pop-up screen should appear from the marker, giving information about the location, including the type of location it is (life event, location lived in or travelled to, or photograph), a date and options to comment and like.
- Click on the date. As you will notice, there is no direct option to remove the location from the pop-up screen. Instead, you will need to remove the location from your Timeline. You can either find the entry for the location on your Timeline manually, however the easier method is to simply click on the date found on the pop-up screen, which will take you to the location's entry automatically.
- For photo locations on your Map, instead click on the photo or find it in your Facebook photo albums and select the option to Edit Location and then either change the location or delete it. This will then alter your Timeline's Map.
- For work/school locations on your Map, you will need to edit the About section of your Timeline and manually alter or remove the school/job's entry in that section. This will then alter your Timeline's Map.
- Remove the entry from your Timeline. As with any other entry on your Timeline, it has an edit button located in the top right of the entry box, represented by a pencil. Click on this button and select the option to "Delete...".
- Confirm your choice in the pop-up dialogue box. This will remove the entry from your Facebook Timeline and in turn, it will be removed from your Map, with the marker having been removed.
- Alternatively, the Maps application can be accessed from your Facebook Homepage under the applications section to the left of your screen, if you have used the application recently.
- If you have forgotten where the marker you want removed exactly is on the Map, try narrowing down the search by using the year parameters on the right side of the screen or by filtering the type of locations shown from the categories on the bottom of the screen. For example, if you select "2001" from the right and "Photos" from the categories below, only photo locations from 2001 will be shown on your Facebook Timeline Map.
