| How to Make a Butterfly Origami Nov 11th 2012, 08:00 This article will show you how to make an origami butterfly. - Use a square piece of paper. Lay it colour-side down. Fold it in half, then unfold.
- Fold it in half the other way, and unfold again.
- Fold in half diagonally both ways.
- Place the model in front of you so that it is shaped like a square (not a diamond). Fold each side to meet the middle crease.
- Have the model facing you length-wise. Notice the diagonal creases in the top left and right corners. Pinch these (just on the top layer) and use the back of your hand to hold the other end of the model down.
- Notice the fold in the middle of the model. With the flaps that you pinched in the last step, pull them apart and down until the top of the model meets the center crease.
- Turn the model over and repeat steps 5 and 6 on the other side.
- Fold the top half back.
- Hold the trapezoid-shaped model in your hand so the long edge is at the top. Fold the top right flap down.
- Repeat this on the left flap.
- Examine the flaps you just folded down. Fold the edge of each towards the inside. There are no creases to go by, just make sure that they are about the same on each side.
- Fold the model in half.
- Pinch the flat part of the model about a centimeter (1/2 inch) or so in (see picture). Push the flaps back on it (while still holding it) with your other hand. Bend the paper around your fingers so that it creases lightly (this is the body).
- Your butterfly is finished!
