This article will guide you through the process of creating a video greeting eCard using the GoAnimate application through the "YouTube Create" platform.

Edit Steps

  1. Go to the YouTube Create page at http://www.youtube.com/create. Find the GoAnimate description paragraph. Click the "Create Video" button and log in to your Google account if asked to.
  2. Click "Create" and choose "Quick Video Makers" from the GoAnimate toolbar.
  3. Choose the "Video eCard" template.

  4. Choose the source of your card's picture.

    You can :
    • Choose one of GoAnimate's default pictures. If you choose one of GoAnimate's pictures, you can skip the next step.
    • Upload an image from you computer.
      1. Click the "Upload Image" link within the "Get an image from your computer" box. The Upload Image dialog will appear. Click "Upload an Image".

      2. Select the image from your computer using the browse dialog that appears. When you choose the image, uploading will start. When the upload is finished, the dialog will disappear and the image you selected will be shown in the next page's preview box.

    • Import an image from Facebook.
      1. Click the "Import now" link in the Facebook box. The Facebook Log-in Dialog will appear.

      2. Wait until the loading screen disappears.

      3. In the "Log in to animate" screen, click the "Log In With Facebook" button.

      4. Select the image you want from the picture gallery that will be displayed.

        Wait until the "Uploading from Facebook" screen disappears.

  5. Place and customize the "heads". Heads are cartoon-like eyes and a mouth that will cite your dialog. You can re-size the whole head, or just single components (eyes, mouth). You can add heads by dragging from the heads pane and dropping them into your picture preview. You can drag and drop heads into a new location.

  6. Start entering your dialog in the "Type or Record Dialog" page. You can either type in the text you want your character to say in the video or record your own sound. In the first case, the text you type will be converted to speech by GoAnimate.

    • You are limited to 10 lines of dialog in free accounts and 40 lines in the paid upgrade of GoAnimate.
    • Each line-entry interface has the picture of the character that will say the line. You can switch the character using the "Actor" button.
    • You can change the emotion the character will use when saying a line using the "emotions" button. This button will display a facial expressions selection window. Choose the desired emotion and click "confirm".
    • You can switch between text entry and voice recording using the lower right buttons.
    • You can select different voices and voice styles for your actors using the "Voice" button. This will display a voice switching warning and then a voice selection window.
  7. Select the background music.

  8. Click the "Preview" button when you are finished editing the dialog.
  9. Wait for the video to be generated.

  10. Wait for the preview to be loaded.

  11. Watch the preview and modify your video if you find anything that needs modifying. Click the "Save Now" button when you are done.
  12. Enter your video information in the page that appears. You'll need to provide the title of your video (this will be the title of the video on YouTube), and the message (which will also be used in the YouTube published video as the description). Click the "Publish as Public" or "Publish as Private" button when you are finished.

  13. Wait until the video is being published. A "Publishing" waiting page will be loaded. When the video is created and is actually publishing to YouTube, another page will appear.
    • You can close the page when the second publishing page appears.
    • You will be notified when your video is published and live on YouTube.
  14. Send a link to your newly published video eCard to the special someone you created it for, or to your contacts on holidays.

Edit Tips

  • If you choose to search Google Images for pictures, modify your search to include a creative commons license such as cc-by-sa. This will show images with that license, which allows you to share the image if you attribute the source.

  • Using copyrighted images when uploading an image from your hard drive, importing from Facebook or searching in Google images might infringe the original owner's intellectual property rights; be sure you have permission first.
