How to Display Christmas Cards
Dec 2nd 2012, 02:00

In spite of electronic communications, the tradition of sending Christmas cards is still strong. And for many people, this can mean a lot of cards in need of displaying in a pleasant place that doesn't get in the way of the festivities and home life. While you could just bunch up the cards on a shelf or mantelpiece, there are some more interesting ways to display Christmas cards that will help to make them the focal point of your Christmas decorating.

Edit Steps

Make a centerpiece

  1. Place a large Christmas arrangement in the middle of your table. It could be a fresh arrangement or an artificial one. You may already have a Christmas arrangement in your home that you use every year that would work for this purpose.
    • Consider an arrangement of pine branches or cedar branches. You could even try an arrangement of wooden branches with red berries.
  2. Insert your Christmas cards randomly throughout this Christmas arrangement. The branches of the arrangement will hold the cards in place.

Make a wreath

  1. Hang a wreath inside your house for displaying your Christmas cards. The wreath would need to be plain, so that the cards would be the main attraction.
  2. Attach Christmas cards to the wreath as you receive them.
    • If the wreath is Styrofoam, you can attach the cards with a pin that is inserted into the card and the Styrofoam. If the wreath is covered in material, you can attach the cards with a pin.
    • If pins will not work for the type of wreath you have, consider attaching the cards with clips or miniature clothespins.

Make a ribbon hanger

  1. Purchase a long strip of wide decorative ribbon. Consider the colors of your home decorations when choosing the ribbon for this project. The length could be as short as 2 feet (60cm) or as long as you would like.
  2. Make a decorative bow at the top of this ribbon or simply notch the ribbon at the top.
  3. Place a hanger on the back of the ribbon. Hang anywhere in your home that you would like for your Christmas cards to be on display.
  4. Pin the cards to the ribbon as you receive them.
    • A good way to attach the cards to the ribbon is with small miniature clothespins. You can also use binder clips that can be purchased in decorative colors.
    • For a little more decoration, you can make a loop in the ribbon every few inches (cm). The cards would be attached under this loop. If you choose this looping method, it will take more ribbon.

Make a garland

  1. String a garland across your window, fireplace or entertainment center. The garland could be made from a ribbon, string, yarn or plastic chain. You might even use an evergreen garland for this purpose.
  2. Attach your Christmas cards to the garland. Use pins or clips for attaching the cards.
    • You could also hot glue a small ribbon loop to the back of each card. You could then use the loop to attach the card to your garland. The card will hang down below the garland.
    • Some people dispense with the clothespins and simply hang cards sideways across the garland; this can still look very effective.

Edit Tips

  • If you choose the ribbon method for displaying your cards, consider using more than one ribbon. The ribbons could be displayed at the same level, or staggered for a different effect. Place the ribbons about 8 inches (20cm) apart. Add more ribbons as you receive more cards.
