How to Make Kale Chips
Jan 4th 2013, 02:00

Although kale chips may sound and even look like a very odd food, after one bite you'll be hooked. These chips are crunchy in a crumbling-type way, salty, thin as paper, and a lot healthier than you may think! Kale is one of the most nutrition-packed foods around, and this recipe will help you use it in a fun and tasty way.

Edit Ingredients

  • 1 bunch of kale (any type)
  • ~3 Tbsp olive oil
  • ~1 Tbsp balsamic vinegar (optional)
  • Spices such as salt, pepper, and paprika (optional)

Edit Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 250ºF, 120ºC, or 300ºF convection.

  2. Rinse the kale in cold water.

  3. Dry the kale using a salad spinner, or pat dry with a kitchen towel. The drier it is, the better.

  4. Cut the kale into chip-sized pieces. It's fine if they aren't exact or all the same size.

    • Remember that as the kale is baking, it'll shrink a bit so it is fine if you make them a bit on the large side.
  5. Add all the ingredients to a plastic resealable bag. Shake and massage the dressing into the kale until every piece of kale is very lightly (but evenly) coated.

    • For the olive oil, start with the amount stated, and add more if needed.
  6. Lay out on a metal cookie sheet in a single layer. Most likely you'll need to use multiple cookie sheets, or multiple batches.

  7. Bake in oven for 35 minutes, checking on them every 5 minutes after that to see if they're done. They should be green and crisp, but not brown.

  8. Serve shortly after they're done, and enjoy!
