How to Sketch a Photograph Using SketchBookX Jan 26th 2013, 08:00 SketchBookX, created by Autodesk, Inc., is an iPad app that allows you to sketch using a wide variety of tools. It is easy to use and you'll soon find the artist within emerging as you are inspired to turn your favorite photographs into lovely sketches. - If you don't already have the app, download it from iTunes. As mentioned before, it was created by Audodesk. Start it up.
- Press on the album icon surrounded by the red square in the screenshot.
- Press on the flower/plus icon that you see at the bottom of the screen. You will either be taking a picture or using one in your photo album.
- Open up your image in SketchBookX.
- Be sure you have the right drawing tool and color. Press on the drawing icon, and then select what you want to use.

Press on the layer icon in the top right. Press on the layer icon in the top right. You will be adding a layer on top of your photograph. Press on the plus sign to add the layer. - Zoom into your image to be where you want to draw. Start drawing/sketching over it.
- Continue until you want to look at it without the background (the photograph). Go back to the layer dialog and press the eye next to the photograph.
- Look at the image and make sure you haven't missed anything. If you need to, click on the eye again and finish working on your sketch.
- Once done, delete the layer with the photograph on it. What you will have left is the sketch that you did over it.
- If you have the free version, you can only do three sketches. However, you can delete sketches that you have done, so that you still have more left to do.
