How to Bake Cod Feb 20th 2013, 00:00 Cod is a fish with a delicate, white flaky but firm flesh. It can be prepared in a number of different ways but baking is a good method because it helps to concentrate the lovely flavor of this fish. Baked cod is a very easy dish to prepare and is perfect for fixing a quick and nutritious meal when you're busy. Edit Ingredients Servings: 4
- 1 pound (450g) fish fillets, such as cod; if you need to clean and gut the fish before cooking, do so first
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 1 tablespoon butter or margarine, softened
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon onion, grated
- Paprika, if desired
- Clean fresh fish or thaw frozen fish fillets, if using.
- Preheat oven to 350ºF/180ºC.
- Season both sides of the fish with salt and pepper, to taste.
- Mix together the soft butter or margarine, lemon juice and onion. Place the fish on the baking dish.
- Pour the butter or margarine mixture over the fish fillets.
- Bake the fish 20 to 25 minutes or until the fish flakes.
- Serve with steamed vegetables, rice/noodles or other preferred accompaniments.
- Large cod tends to be cut into fillets, slices or pieces, ready for purchase.[1] Cod is generally well liked by chefs because its larger bone structure makes it easy to see and pick out the bones.
- Cod is not a fatty fish and it's full of mineral salts.[1] Oil found in lean fish, like cod, is stored in your liver rather than in your flesh, making it especially healthy.[2]
Edit Warnings - Use care when removing the hot pan from the oven.
- Avoid prolonged cooking of cod––too much time in the oven will spoil its delicate flavor and can destroy its flaky presentation.
