Oct 3rd 2012, 02:00 You've probably eaten a Milano cookie––it's a scrumptious cookie by Pepperidge Farm (USA) that has chocolate in the middle of two other cookies. - 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 7/8 cup egg whites (about 6 eggs)
- 2 tbsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp lemon extract
- 1 1/2 cup flour
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 8 ounces (226g) semisweet chocolate, chopped
- 1 zested orange (optional)
Cookie dough - Preheat oven to 350ºF/180ºC.
- Cream and mix the butter and sugar.
- Add to the mix the egg whites, vanilla extract and lemon extract.
- Mix the flour into the mixture and stir with a paddle attachment.
- Pipe 1 inch (2.5cm) portions of batter onto a lined sheet pan, using 1/4 inch (6.35mm) plain-tipped piping bag.
- Bake these in preheated oven for 10 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let these cool on the pan.
Filling - Pour a small amount of scalded heavy cream onto the chopped semi-sweet chocolate.
- Whisk the chocolate and cream mix until these two ingredients are melted together. Blend well.
- Let this mixture cool.
- Spread thin amounts of the mixture onto the flat sides of the cookies, while still warm, soft, and pliable.
- Press the flat side of a second cookie on top.
- This recipe makes about 3 dozen cookies.
- There are some recipes that say to bake these cookies in a preheated oven to 325ºF instead of 350ºF. However, if the lower temperature is used, these cookies will need to be baked a while longer.
- For broader taste, you may choose to refrigerate these cookies for several hours.
