How to Play Beer Checkers Oct 5th 2012, 14:00 Beer checkers is a two-player drinking game, played on a standard checkerboard. The game uses cups or glasses of beer in place of the regular checker pieces. - Set up a standard checkerboard as you would for a normal game of checkers.
- Replace the checker pieces with cups or glasses (12 cups/glasses per side). There are some important qualifications as to the type of cups/glasses used:
- The cups/glasses need to be either a different shape color to distinguish each side. Alternatively, use light beer in one set of cups/glasses and dark beer in the other set.
- Cup/glass size is very important. Each play has 12 cups/glasses. If you use 8 ounce (236ml) cups/glasses, then you will need eight beers just to set up the board. Add another two to three beers for kings, and you end up finishing almost a 12 pack per game. Smaller cups/glasses work best, and shot glasses are a good, often used size for this game.
- Fill each of the cups/glasses approximately half-full with beer.
- Play as usual. The game is played in the same manner as checkers. When a piece reaches the king's row, it is designated as a king by filling the cup/glass full. When a piece is jumped by an opposing player, the owner of the piece must drink the beer from the jumped piece.
- Declare the winner. The game is won by a player when the other player cannot move their piece, either because all the remaining pieces are blocked, or because the player has no remaining pieces. The losing player must drink from all of the remaining cups/glasses on the checkerboard.
- Combine with other beer games like beer bingo or beer pong for a complete beer party experience.
- If the loser doesn't want to drink what's left, share it around as a gesture of goodwill.
Edit Warnings - Drink responsibly and don't play too much! If your guests plan on playing a lot of drinking games, make it a sleepover event and toss sleeping bags and mats around to encourage people to stay. A promise of a sterling breakfast helps keep people at your place for the night!
- If someone doesn't want to drink, don't force them to. It's just a game, not a showdown.
Edit Things You'll Need - Checkerboard (waterproof, preferably)
- 24 cups (2-6 ounce/60ml-180ml)
