How to Make a Blossom Painting Using a Soda Bottle
Oct 6th 2012, 17:00

This is a cute way to make a painting of blossom, quickly and evenly. It can be used by children or adults alike, although the neatness of the end results will vary by age. While this article suggests using pink paint for the blossom, the colors are really up to you, the artist.

Edit Steps

  1. Assemble the supplies needed. These are listed below.
  2. Lay down newspaper or other cover to protect your workspace. There may be splashes from the pink paint when creating this artwork.
  3. Using the brown paint, paint a tree trunk and some bare branches along the length of the white paper background. You will be stamping the blossom onto this image. Leave to dry before proceeding.
  4. Pour the pink paint onto a small plate or saucer. Or use a paper plate if you want to dispose of it rather than wash the paint off.
  5. Dip the base of the soda bottle into the paint, to pick up paint on its base. Lift up and allow any loose paint to drip off before using.
  6. Align the paint-dipped bottle base over the part of the paper where you'd like to add the first blossom. Simply press down the base of the bottle gently and lift up cleanly. You will see blossom imprinted where you have pressed––there should be five outer dots and possibly an inner circle dot too, depending on the pattern of your soda bottle.
  7. Repeat as many times as you want blossom on the tree. Try different styles, some with more blossom, some with less, until you get a picture that you like the most.
  8. Wash up any mess and put everything away. The soda bottle can be turned into something else, like a candy dish or a volcano science project.
  9. Hang up the dried picture. Find a pretty place in your room to hang up the picture. If you're a teacher doing this with a class, have the children place them around the classroom as decorations to celebrate springtime.

Edit Tips

  • Be creative by changing the colors. For example, use black paper, gold paint for the trunk and white paint for the blossom.

Edit Things You'll Need

  • Newspaper, plastic cloth, etc. to protect workspace
  • Soda bottle, plastic, with 5 pronged indented base (looks like a flower if you use your imagination); any size but obviously, the bigger the bottle, the bigger or wider apart the blossoms will be, so factor this in when planning the image
  • Plate (ceramic or paper)
  • Pink and brown paints
  • Quality paper for painting on, long piece for tree length
