A Russians on Alert
martini is caffeinated for that "alert" feeling and is made with vodka, Kahlua, espresso, and a maraschino cherry for a garnish. The espresso provides most of the caffeine, while the espresso and the
Kahlua coffee liqueur both create a rich, complex coffee flavor. The Kahlua also provides some sweetness and body or mouthfeel to the the cocktail. The vodka provides that extra boost of alcohol as well as complexity to the
cocktail.
Edit Ingredients
- 1 oz (30 mL) vodka
- 1 oz (30 mL) Kahlua
- 1 or 2 oz (30 mL to 60 mL) cold or chilled espresso
- Maraschino cherry for garnish
- Add ice to a cocktail shaker.
- Add the vodka, Kahlua and cold espresso to the cocktail shaker.
- Cap the shaker.
- Shake the ingredients vigorously for about five seconds.
- Strain into a cocktail glass. A dense layer of foam should form on the surface of the cocktail.
- Garnish with the cherry. One or more cherries can be speared on a toothpick and rested on the rim of the glass. It is fine if the cherry is partially in the drink, but the cherry should be visible and therefore not totally submerged.
- Serve.
- Hot espresso will melt the ice in the shaker too much so always use cold espresso.
Edit Warnings
- Drink alcoholic beverages responsibly.
- Caffeine in a drink does not make you more sober.
